A cautery machine generates heat or electricity; this heat or electricity, in collaboration with the proper instrument for accessing bleeding tissue, can seal blood vessels and cease bleeding.

There are two main types of modes present in surgical cautery machines.

• Cutting Mode: This method provides continuous and smooth flow of heat. Surgeons can easily cut through tissue using this method. It's used when a clean cut is required.
• Coagulation Mode: In the coagulation mode, the cautery machine generates intense and concentrated heat for some time. It's used when there is bleeding and should be controlled. It seals up the blood vessels and the tissues in no time, thereby controlling the bleeding.

A cautery machine is an instrument that used in surgery to prevent excessive bleeding. It destroys the unwanted tissue by closing blood vessels, which prevents excessive bleeding and makes the surgical procedure much safer.
