The BD Venflon biomaterial is used to manufacture this bd venflon pro that decreases cannula-related problems. BD IV Cannula has a combined injection port, valve, and snap cap. It is sterile, latex-free, PTFE, ported, winged, and designed for single-use, however it is also compatible with BD Luer-Slip and Luer-Lock.

BD venflon (Orange) are used to perform the following functions:
- This 14 g cannula using for Regular blood sampling
- Monitoring and administration of intravenous fluids.
- Administration of chemotherapy drugs through the IV route
- Channel for IV nutrition and IV control of radiologic agents, such as those used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- CT scans (computed tomography) and nuclear imaging
- The cannula will be removed after your treatment ends. It is recommended to replace the cannula if it is not working properly. It should be replaced routinely, if still in use, every 72 hours.
How to use BD cannula:
- Comply to Aseptic Non-Touch Technique (ANTT) throughout the procedure.
- Disinfect the injection site with ethanol or sprit.
- Remove the 14g venflon from the packaging and fold down the wings.
- Hold and remove the needle cover. Insert the cannula bd at a low angle appropriate to the vein depth. Upon primary flashback lower the angle almost parallel to the skin.
- Advance the cannula slightly, two to three millimetres, to ensure the cannula tip is in the vein. Stabilise the cannula, and ease the needle back two to three millimetres.
- Secondary flashback between the needle and cannula will confirm correct placement in the vein. Advance the cannula off the needle and insert it completely into the vein.
How to remove 14 gauge venflon:
- Stabilise the cannula. Occlude the vein just above the cannula tip and withdraw the needle holding the needle grip or grip plate. The safety mechanism will then be activated.
- Do NOT hold onto the needle protection shield.
- Dispose of the needle in a sharps container.
- Close the IV access with the end cap or add a needle-free connector extension set as per your hospital policy. Apply a sterile IV dressing. Flush the cannula to verify correct placement in the vein and prevent occlusion.
